PM Oli set to inaugurate Kharpu Bailey Bridge, connecting Simkot to national road network
Simkot: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is inaugurating the Kharpu Bailey Bridge over Chuwa khola at Khaarpunath in Humla, officially linking Simkot—the last district headquarters—to Nepal’s national road network.
The 48-meter bridge, completed by the Nepal Army in just 40 days, was constructed after delays in building a concrete bridge under the Karnali Corridor.
The decision to build a bailey bridge came last October following joint efforts from all political parties and the initiative of CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali, under Prime Minister Oli’s directive.
Alongside Prime Minister Oli, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Devendra Dahal, Defense Minister Manvir Rai, and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel are attending the inauguration.
The bridge marks a key milestone in the 23-year Karnali Corridor project, which also aims to enhance trade through the Hilsa and Jamunaha border crossings.
The Prime Minister’s Oli’s Humla visit focuses on five goals: connecting Simkot to the road network, promoting Karnali’s development, upgrading the Hilsa checkpoint, linking with the BRI, and exploring petroleum potential in Jaljale.
