NA passes Customs Bill, 2080

Kathmandu: The National Assembly has passed the Customs Bill, 2080, on Wednesday.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel had presented a proposal in the NA meeting, seeking consideration for the passage of the Customs Bill received from the lower house, the House of Representatives, with a message.

It was passed unanimously. Presenting the proposal, Finance Minister Paudel expressed belief that it would help control customs leakage, increase the use of technology, make customs clearance easy, smooth and effective once it comes into force as law.

The government introduced this bill, citing it was necessary to make the customs clearance process technology-friendly and easier, as well as to amend the customs act to make it compatible with the Kyoto Convention, to which Nepal is a party.

This Act would be implemented on the 91st day from the date of authentication. The NA will meet next Friday.
