RSS Photo Exhibition concludes, attracting diverse visitors including diplomats

Kathmandu, June 30: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has spoken of the need to preserve the aesthetic beauty of the mountains and protect the planet from the impacts of climate change.

Addressing the closing ceremony of a photo exhibition organized by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) on the occasion of Republic Day 2082 BS at the RSS Central Office, Bhadrakali Plaza, on Monday, Sharma called for cooperative and collective efforts from all sectors to preserve the mountains from environmental changes. “If the risks posed by climate change continue to escalate, the mountains we are viewing in this exhibition may vanish from our sight within the next ten years,” he warned.

Sharma, who has already summited Mt Lobuche, recently canceled his expedition to Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) from Camp III due to adverse weather conditions. “The unchecked rise in carbon emissions is accelerating global warming at an alarming rate,” he said, stressing the need for Nepal to amplify its voice regarding this issue globally. He also acknowledged the contribution of the RSS and the RSS family to highlighting the significance of mountains to the ecosystem through the exhibition themed ” Mountain Tourism: Our Pride, Our Identity”.

Also, addressing the closing ceremony of the exhibition, RSS Executive Chairperson Dharmendra Jha said that the photo exhibition was organized to raise awareness about the significance of the mountains as well as to prod the policymakers towards mountain conservation. Chairperson Jha shared that the policymakers, tourism entrepreneurs, and diplomats of various foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal ‘keenly’ observed the displayed photos at the exhibition that ran for a month.

Jha added that the exhibition also drew professors, students, media professionals as well as the general public who, according to him, gave positive feedback. He expressed his confidence that the exhibition would draw the attention of the responsible authority at the policy-making level thereby contributing to the protection and promotion of mountains and mountain heritages besides promoting domestic tourism.

The photo exhibition featuring 96 photos was inaugurated on May 25 in commemoration of Republic Day 2025. The exhibition attracted notable visitors including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, former Prime Ministers, ministers, high-ranking officials of the government of Nepal, parliamentarians, political leaders, the Chief of the Nepali Army among others and representatives and Heads of the foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal.

Furthermore, renowned mountaineers, tourism entrepreneurs, students, representatives of the stakeholder agencies and the general public also visited the exhibition held at the RSS central office. Photos that were captured by RSS reporters and photojournalists over different periods were displayed in the exhibition showcasing compelling images of Nepal’s majestic mountains, alluring mountain cultures and traditions, and key tourism destinations including trekking trails, glacial lakes, flora and fauna and cultural festivities in the mountain regions.

It may be noted that the RSS, the only state-owned news agency in the country, has been organizing photo exhibitions on different themes for the last three years marking the Republic Day (on Jestha 15 of every Nepali month).
