ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup: Nepal thrash Bhutan by 298 runs, reach semi-finals

Kathmandu: Nepal have advanced to the semi-finals of the ACC Men’s Under-16 East Zone Cup with a dominant 298-run victory over Bhutan in their final group-stage match.

Batting first after winning the toss at the Selangor Turf Club in Malaysia, Nepal posted a massive total of 358/5 in 50 overs. Raunak Srivastav led the charge with a brilliant 168 off 132 balls, hitting five sixes and 16 fours. Joy Thapa remained unbeaten on 61, while Shiwansh Bajgain and Sugam Budhathoki added 54 and 35 runs respectively.

In reply, Bhutan were restricted to just 60/9 in 32.4 overs. Nepal’s captain Bipin Prasad Sharma starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs in his 10-over spell. Sachin Bhatta and Suyog Bhattarai claimed two wickets each. Bhutan’s last batter did not come out to bat.

With this win, Nepal topped Group ‘A’ after winning all four group matches. Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia have also reached the semi-finals. Nepal will face Malaysia in the semi-final on Thursday. Nepal are the defending champions, having defeated Malaysia in the 2023 final.

The tournament, organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), features ten nations.
