Minister Gurung for making postal service reliable
Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said the reliable and fast postal services could boost revenue.
During an interaction organised today by the Department of Postal Service regarding progress review for the fiscal year 2025/26, Minister Gurung pointed out the need for a new law to create a modern and smart postal service.
‘The ministry is actively working to modernise postal services; policy-making for the establishment of a modern postal service is in the final stage,’ Gurung said. He suggested improving the capacity of the staff in the department.
‘We will introduce the Postal Act this year, and efforts are being made with a plan to make the local postal structure more effective, for which full support and cooperation from the employees is needed,’ he added. Minister Gurung also assured of making a motorcycle available at local postal offices this year.
Similarly, the joint secretary at the ministry, Koshhari Niroula, mentioned that the ministry has always been positive towards the growth and development of postal services, stating that efforts are being made to integrate the postal service with e-commerce.
Director General of the postal department, Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, said they have been collaborating with local governments to bring postal services to the people’s doorsteps.
