National Assembly members urge government action on air safety, press freedom, and social justice

Kathmandu: Lawmakers in today’s meeting of the National Assembly called on the government to address a range of pressing national issues, raising concerns over sectors that could impact Nepal’s global standing and internal stability.

During the session, members emphasized the urgent need to resolve ongoing problems in the air transport and immigration sectors, warning that failure to act could damage Nepal’s international reputation.

They also urged the government to take swift and effective measures to safeguard press freedom, warning against interference by state organs and agencies. Containing the spread of dengue was highlighted as another immediate priority.

In addition, lawmakers pressed for the timely enactment of laws to uphold the rights of women and Dalits and called for an immediate allocation of budget for relief and rehabilitation in Naugadh Municipality, Darchula, which has been declared a disaster-affected area.

Earlier in the meeting, lawmaker Gangakumari Belbase, speaking during emergency time, demanded a thorough and credible investigation into the ongoing visit visa controversy and called for strict action against those found guilty of misconduct.
