Speaker’s bid to end parliamentary impasse ends without consensus as parties remain firm on their stances

Kathmandu: A meeting convened by Speaker Devraj Ghimire to break the ongoing parliamentary deadlock ended inconclusively, as the ruling and opposition parties remained entrenched in their respective positions over Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation.

The meeting, held at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, included chief whips from major parties. Speaker Ghimire met with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, and Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire.

Opposition leader Hitraj Pandey said his party would respond after a meeting of opposition parties called by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Meanwhile, the ruling party representatives reiterated their refusal to accept the opposition’s demands for the Home Minister’s resignation and the formation of an investigation committee.

Expressing disappointment, Speaker Ghimire noted that despite repeated adjournments of Parliament aimed at fostering dialogue, no agreement had been reached. He urged both sides to consider constitutional boundaries and the need to move forward with the budget discussion, currently stalled due to the deadlock.
