Speaker Ghimire holds talks with Chief Whips of major parties to resolve parliamentary deadlock
Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire held a meeting today with the chief whips of the three major political parties in an effort to end the ongoing deadlock in the House of Representatives.
The discussion, held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar today, included Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, and Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey.
According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, Ghimire expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress, noting that repeated adjournments of parliamentary sessions to encourage consensus had produced no results.
The impasse stems from demands by opposition parties for the resignation of the Home Minister and the formation of a high-level investigation committee into the recent visit visa scandal.
The ruling coalition, however, has rejected the demands, further deepening the political standoff.
