Deuba Urges global action on climate change, highlights Nepal’s vulnerability
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said Nepal is among the countries most affected by climate change, despite contributing minimal carbon emissions.
Receiving a memorandum from an organization campaigning against coal energy, Deuba emphasized the urgent need for global action to address the climate crisis and compensate vulnerable nations like Nepal. He noted that melting glaciers and erratic weather are severely impacting lives and livelihoods.
Recalling his 2021 COP-26 pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, Deuba stressed the importance of expanding electric energy use. Association chair Prajita Karki also called for a collective effort to promote clean and renewable energy while phasing out fossil fuels like coal.
