Nepal Day Parade in New York
Texas (USA), May 19: The Nepali community in New York held the Nepal Day Parade on Sunday.
Nepal Day is observed every year to help promote Nepal’s tourism. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the Nepali community. In addition to New York, Nepalis from the states of New Jersey and Connecticut also participated in the Nepal Day program, adorned in Nepali costumes, carrying national flags and various banners.
The Nepal Day parade was inaugurated by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Senator Chuck Schumer. On the occasion, they praised Nepali art and culture and believed that the art and culture presented in the Nepal Day program, organized by the Nepali community every year, has helped make New York a more diverse city. In New York’s busy Manhattan, panchebaja, bhajans, deuda and hudkeli, Marathi, Maithili, Sherpa and Tamang selo were performed.
The Nepal Day Parade program is organized in New York every year on the occasion of Republic Day. It helps introduce Nepal to the world and attracts the attention of the diverse community in the city, said Gokul Shrestha, Tourism Promoter of the Government of Nepal. The Nepal Day Parade program was organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association, America, New York Chapter, with the participation of more than a dozen organizations of the Nepali community.
It was chaired by Tshiring Sherpa, President of the NRNA New York Chapter. Nepali community leaders say that the Nepal Day Parade, which was started in 2016, has established itself as a national festival for the Nepali community living in and around New York.
