Bill to replace decades-old motion pictures law aims to promote film industry

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has stated that a bill aimed at amending and integrating laws related to the film industry will address the existing challenges in the industry.

Speaking at a program on Tuesday, the Minister noted that the current law governing motion pictures is based on an Act from 2026 BS (1969), despite significant changes in the industry since then. The new bill is designed to bridge this gap and further promote this sector.

Minister Gurung also highlighted that film production in Nepal began in 2022 BS, and numerous developments have since been awaited to further promote the industry.

On the same occasion, it was announced that an advanced film studio will be established on a 42-ropani of land (one ropani is equivalent to 5476 square feet), with an investment of Rs 3.7 million in Banepa of Kavrepalanchowk.
