On Air Station:

All labour including physical, mental labor should be respected: former PM Bhattarai

Kathmandu, May 1: Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that all laborers’ physical and mental labor should be highly respected.

Addressing a program here today organized by the Nepal Socialist Trade Union Federation and Nepal Samajwadi Newa Association on the occasion of May Day, the former PM complained that the communist leaders tend to forget the issues of labor rights and welfare once they reach the helm of power.

He contended that the power has shifted from the real workers to intermediaries and commission seekers. Saying that the federal democratic republic system was established in the country due to the struggles of laborers and the general public, Dr Bhatarai said failure to address the workers’ genuine concerns was unfortunate.

On the occasion, Dr Bhattarai reiterated that a directly elected presidential system and a fully proportional electoral system should be embraced for political stability and economic prosperity in the country.

Likewise, Dr Bhattarai shared that he talked about deepening Nepal-India relations during his recent visit to India and revealed that he asked the Indian leaders not to get misled by the illusions spread by the pro-monarchists.
