Nepal School Employees Council announces protests over unmet demands
Kathmandu, May 2: The Nepal School Employees Council has announced a fresh wave of protests starting from May 4.
The council of staffs at community schools decided to take to the street out of dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to address their concerns through the recent nine-point agreement with the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers.
The Council, in a press conference here today, put forth a seven-point demand such as ending discrimination between teachers and staffs in community schools for any payment and perks, and implementation of previously signed agreements as well as the Supreme Court’s verdict related to their cause.
During the press conference, Gangaram Tiwari, Chairperson of the Council, called for allowances for working in remote areas, timely promulgation of School Education Act, allowing accumulation of sick leave and ensuring proper pay scale.
He shared that a 15-member protest mobilization committee has been formed in coordination of Babban Mishra to launch the protest.
The protest programme, which will be launched in different forms and places, will culminate in Kathmandu on May 23 and 24 where the disgruntled staffs will take to streets, it was told.
It may be noted that a prolonged protest launched by community schools’ teachers in Kathmandu had been put off after entering a nine-point agreement with the government on April 29.
