Global observances today: Immunisation Week, Girls in ICT Day, and Multilateralism Day
April 24, Kathmandu: World Immunisation Week begins today, joined by International Girls in ICT Day and the International Day of Diplomacy for Multilateralism and Peace. Held annually around April 22 under UN guidance, these events promote global health, gender equality in tech, and multilateral cooperation.
World Immunisation Week, themed “Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible,” highlights vaccines’ role in saving 154 million lives over 50 years, with measles vaccines alone boosting child survival by 40%. Vaccines protect against diseases like malaria, influenza, tetanus, and HPV.
International Girls in ICT Day, themed “Girls in Information Technology for Inclusive Digital Transformation,” fosters equal opportunities in tech. Discussions on digital innovation will take place in Kyrgyzstan and Mauritania.
The International Day of Diplomacy for Multilateralism and Peace, observed since 2018, reaffirms global commitment to peace and security, backed by 144 nations.
