Energy Minister Khadka guarantees load shedding-free Nepal, inaugurates China-constructed hydropower

April 9, Kathmandu: Nepal has advanced toward ending power outages, with Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, declaring that load shedding would no longer affect the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 78-megawatt Sanjenkhola Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, he assured citizens that uninterrupted electricity would be available for households and industries.

The Rs 22 billion project, constructed by China’s Sinohydro Bureau-11 in Amachhodingo Rural Municipality-5, was officially connected to the national grid on Wednesday. The minister praised the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), led by Hitendra Dev Shakya, for its vital role in this achievement.

He stressed that the government had been committed to ensuring round-the-clock power supply and advancing reservoir-based projects for export to India and Bangladesh, noting that an agreement had been signed to export 10,000 megawatts to India.

NEA Managing Director Shakya urged the public to ignore rumors of power cuts and expressed confidence that he would elevate the agency to new heights with the Ministry’s full support. The Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Xin, commended Nepal’s hydropower progress as highly promising and confirmed that China would continue its support.

Minister Khadka encouraged private sector and donor agencies to invest confidently in Nepal’s hydropower sector, signaling a bright and electrified future for the nation.
