NC, UML condemn violence, anarchy
Kathmandu, March 28: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN UML have condemned the violence meted out during the demonstration in the federal capital, Kathmandu, on Friday.
The NC issued a press statement expressing a grave concern over the vandalism and burning of private property, media houses, the office of a political party, a shopping mall, government offices and public vehicles. “A democratic republic was brought through the people’s movement of 2062/63. The movement had restored and then dissolved the House of Representatives.
Later, with the promulgation of the interim constitution and the election to the constituent assembly (CA), the first meeting of the CA declared Nepal a republic. We want to remind this historic date,” the NC mentioned in the press statement.
Releasing a press statement, the General Secretaries duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, said the grievances of the citizen can be heard and resolved through this very constitution. The aspiration of change can be fulfilled from this constitution, they reiterated.
They underscored, “the alternative to democracy is an improved democracy, and the monarchy in any form can not be acceptable for the aware Nepali citizen of the 21st century.” The NC leaders expressed tribute to those losing lives in the violent incidents and urged the government to pay heed to treatment to the injured ones.
The government is also demanded to take stringent actions against those involved in the violence. The NC appealed to all Nepalis to maintain restraint and unity. Time to unite against regression: UML Similarly, the UML has appealed to all political parties to be united against the ill-efforts of regression.
In a press statement on Friday, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said the political parties, civil society and all Nepalis who stand by democracy should be united once to frustrate the regressive attempts. He condemned the violence and anarchy orchestrated at Tinkune, Koteshwor and Jadibuti areas of Kathmandu by the supporters of former king.
The UML demanded the government to immediately bring to book those involved in the criminal activities and ensure peace and security. “Breaching security line, assailing security persons, seizing weapon, torching private and public property and media houses, political party’s office, and looting spree in the name of peaceful demonstration are sheer criminal activities.
They are deplorable,” Pokharel stated. The UML stands firm in favor of federal republic and constitution, he reminded.
