Govt condemns violence, appeals to everyone not to involve in illegal activity

Kathmandu: The government has expressed serious concern over the violent activities at Tinkune, Kathmandu on Friday.

Issuing a press statement this evening, the Home Ministry said the government was committed to bringing to book those involved in illegal activities and establishing rule of law.

The people are appealed to not involve in inhuman and illegal activities. “Government’s attention was drawn seriously towards the violation of constitutionally guaranteed rights as peaceful assembly, and freedom of opinion and expression that unleashed violence during the demonstration organized by the supporters of former king,” the Ministry statement read.

The vandalism and burning of individual property, hospitals, media houses, political party’s office, shopping centres and transport vehicles are illegal, violent and inhuman. Government condemns these illegal activities, it added.

The organizers of the demonstration themselves need to own up such violence and criminal activities, the government made it clear.

It also reminded the constitutional provisions of conferring rights to citizens to exercise democratic system along with the protection of all classes, castes, languages, genders, regions and religious rights. The citizens have the right to express views peacefully but no right to be violent and foment anarchic activities, the Ministry stressed.
