KMC launches free screening of cervical and breast cancer and early treatment campaign for women of reproductive age

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a free screening of cervical and breast cancer, and early treatment campaign for women of reproductive age, starting on Tuesday.

Chandra Bhatta, the contact person for the program shared that the one-month campaign, in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences and Bir Hospital, will run until April 25th.

He added that this year, the target group includes women aged 30 to 60 who were exempted from testing last year, as well as those who tested positive.

To receive the services, individuals are encouraged to visit the Metropolitan City Urban Health Promotion Center, fill in the required details, and receive a referral slip for testing.

To run the campaign, an agreement has been reached between both parties today in the presence of Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel and Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol regarding free testing of citizens.

Dr. Dilip Sharma, Director of Bir Hospital, said that Kathmandu Metropolitan City will provide financial support and Bir Hospital will manage the manpower through the oncology ward to provide free facilities to all citizens.

HPV DNA PCR (Human Papilloma Virus) test will be conducted on all women between the ages of 30 and 60 for cervical cancer. If the report is positive, colposcopy and biopsy will be done.
