Subpar blacktopping on Gharapjhong road
Mustang, March 16: Construction entrepreneurs have been found compromising quality in a road construction project in the district.
The ring road linking all five wards of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality was blacktopped poorly, causing public ire and raising questions about the role of the oversight body.
In response to the growing complaints about the substandard pitch on the Jomsom-Thini road section of the ring road, the Ward-5 office of the local level sent a clarification letter to the Infrastructure Development Office.
The road was blacktopped as part of the ‘One Constituency, One Road Project’ implemented by the Infrastructure Development Office, Mustang, under the Gandaki Province government.
The road, blacktopped several years ago, has started splitting open due to the use of nonstandard materials, according to locals.
However, the construction company responded that the issue may be due to low temperatures. An information officer for the project, Ghanashyam Rokamagar, said, “The blacktopping should have been done at the proper temperature. Adverse temperatures put the construction at risk,” he added.
