Kathmandu DAO issues prohibitory order for two months in capital’s sensitive areas

Kathmandu, March 10: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has issued a prohibitory order banning protests and gatherings in different areas in the Kathmandu district for the next two months.

As per the order from the administration, the programs of sit-ins, protests, demonstrations, rally, gatherings, and assemblies are not allowed near the offices of the executive, legislative, and judiciary; the residential areas of the VIPs; and around the main administrative center, Singhadurbar.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Rishiram Tiwari said that such an order was issued considering the international practices and the verdicts of the court made in the past, adding that organizing such events would end up in vandalism, arson, and other untoward activities, including clashes, conflicts, and destabilizing the peaceful environment, leading to an impact on public service delivery, public transport, and overall law and order.

According to CDO Tiwari, five or more persons are not allowed to gather and stage sit-ins or organize a rally and assembly for two months, with effect from Sunday, March 9.

Such events are not allowed to be organized near the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas, the Office of the Vice President, Singhadurbar, Bhadrakali Mandir, Padhmodaya School, the Office of the Auditor General, the Anamnagar area, Hanumanthan Mandir, the Supreme Court, the Department of Archeology, and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

Likewise, such events are not allowed near the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, the central office of Nepal Rastra Bank, the residence of the National Assembly Chairman, the residence of the Chief Justice, and the Federal Parliament Building. —RSS
