‘End discrimination against Dalit community’
Kathmandu: A demonstration was staged in the federal capital, demanding an end to discrimination against the Dalit community.
The Dalit rights activists and campaigners drew the government’s attention towards discrimination and ill-treatment the Dalit people were facing over inter-caste marriage. The Dalit for Dalit campaign organized a demonstration from Maithighar to New Baneshwor on Monday.
The participants in the demonstration demanded action against those meting out ill-treatment to Dalit people, and those violating the rights of inter-caste couples. They carried the placards reading: ‘Where is Dalit?’ and ‘Rights for Dalit’.
Campaign coordinator Khagendra Sunar informed that they were organizing protest programmes, urging government to ensure equality in practice.
The Dalit rights activists have been voicing for the rights of Satyandra Ram and Neha Rauniyar, an inter-caste couple from Siraha district, as they were harassed frequent by the State, according to him.
