Prohibitory orders imposed in Phungling and Pathibhara areas
Phungling (Taplejung), Feb 23: A prohibitory order has been enforced in Phungling Bazaar and the Pathibhara area of Taplejung district.
The District Administration Office, Taplejung, issued the order effective this morning following a dispute over the construction of a cable car in Pathibhara.
Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma issued a notification on Saturday night, stating that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the district headquarters of Phungling Bazaar and the Pathibhara area.
According to the notice, the order was necessary due to an unfavourable situation following a clash between anti-cable car protesters and the police in Phungling on Saturday evening.
Citing sensitive and adverse circumstances, the order was issued under Section 6 (3) (a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS.
The prohibitory order is in effect from 5 a.m. until further notice in the Phungling Bazaar area, covering Dokhu Salleri in the east, Ghochonu and Thalangdhar in the west, Ukali Pani in the north, Sherpa Tole and Veterinary Kanchenjunga Tole in the south.
In the Pathibhara area, restrictions apply within 100 meters of the tourist police building on the east, Balu Danda on the west, the cable car base station on the north, and the new bus park under construction on the south in the Kaphlepati area.
Gatherings of more than five people, assemblies, processions, demonstrations, and similar activities are prohibited in the restricted zones.
The clashes on Saturday evening left people from both sides injured. A similar confrontation took place on Thursday at the cable car construction site in Pathibhara. In total, 13 people, including police officers and protesters, were injured.
