Monsoon brings natural gift of mushrooms in Bajura: A blend of taste and nutrition

August 13, Kathmandu: With the onset of the monsoon, various types of mushrooms are sprouting in fields, forests, and gardens across rural Bajura and other parts of the country.  Known for their delicious taste and rich nutritional value, these mushrooms are considered highly beneficial for health.

Medical experts highlight that mushrooms are packed with protein, vitamin D, vitamin B complex, potassium, calcium, iron, and antioxidants. According to Chhatra Saud, chief of a health centre in Badimalika Municipality-5, these nutrients boost immunity, regulate blood circulation, and enhance skin health.

Saud added that the low-fat and calorie content in fresh monsoon mushrooms aids in weight management, while the fibre helps cleanse the stomach and improve digestion. However, experts caution that distinguishing between edible and poisonous mushrooms is crucial.

Inexperienced individuals risk serious health issues or even death from consuming toxic varieties, so only mushrooms identified by experts should be eaten.

Health workers emphasise that properly selected and cooked mushrooms are a natural monsoon gift, offering a perfect combination of nutrition, taste, and health benefits. Locals in Bajura report that mushroom dishes are a staple in most households during the rainy season.
