Home Minister Lekhak notifies contributions of private schools

Kailali, Feb 10: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has commended the significant contribution of the private or institutional schools to Nepal’s education sector.

Inaugurating the 4th convention of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization in Nepal (PABSON) in Sudurpaschim Province at Dhangadi on Monday, Minister Lekhak said that everyone had recognized the crucial role of private schools in the country’s education system.

Stating that the government must ensure the provision of free education, Lekhak diplomatically admitted that the community schools’ standards must be scaled up. The minister, however, refuted the notion that institutional and boarding schools were contributing to a decline in the quality and standards of education in community schools.

He, thus, emphasized the need to acknowledge the contributions of both kinds of schools and called for their improvement. He shared that a bill related to education would be passed by the parliament very soon. On a different note, he highlighted the government’s priority on policy and legal reforms.

According to him, the government was advancing the process of passing the bills in the federal parliament, amending them if need be, and drafting new bills in the ongoing winter session of parliament. Recognizing the private sector’s important participation and role in the national economy, the minister said the government upheld the notion that the private sector should be promoted and protected to attain economic prosperity.

“The government of Nepal would like to encourage the private sector. We are clear and confident that the private sector’s growth could drive the country’s economic growth,” he said. Likewise, PABSON Sudurpaschim’s President, Lalit Raj Pant, called for collaborative efforts to advance the education sector in Nepal. —RSS
