HoR passes bills related to banking offence and legislation

 

Kathmandu, Feb 9: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) unanimously passed two bills related to banking offenses and punishment and legislation.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the proposal seeking passage of the Banking Offense and Punishment Bill-2081 and the Legislation Bill-2081. Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya tabled the proposal seeking passage of the Legislation Bill-2081.

 

Before this, the relevant ministers had responded to the questions and concerns raised by parliamentarians in the discussions on those bills. DPM Paudel explained that the bill was introduced to ensure a legal framework for investigating, prosecuting, and taking action against criminal offenses, including cheque bounce, in the banking and financial sector.

 

Likewise, Minister Chaurasiya, in the discussion on the Legislation Bill—2081, said that the bill was designed to further empower citizens. Speaker Devraj Ghimire, during Minister Chaurasiya’s response, presented the government’s approved amendments to those endorsed bills and subsequently announced that the amendments were approved for incorporation into those bills.
