Republic offers opportunity to protect identity of all: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung claimed that an opportunity was availed for all castes, nationalities, and communities to protect their religions, cultures, customs and identities following the promulgation of the present constitution as the outcome of the republic.

Addressing the Lhosar/Lhochar/Losar greetings exchange programme organized by Budhanilkantha Municipality today, he said that political awareness was elevated when the ‘caucus’ formed after the establishment of the republic emphatically raised the issues of women and indigenous peoples.

‘After the promulgation of the federal democratic constitution, all ethnic groups in Nepal are enjoying equal rights from a religious, linguistic and cultural point of view,’ he said.

With the recognition of 124 languages as national languages in the country, the language communities realized their identity established, the communications minister noted.

The mayor of Budhanilakantha municipality, Mitharam Adhikari said the local government has been working to preserve the cultural identities of all castes and ethnicities as well as the communities.
