PSB Nepal should prioritize citizens’ Right to Information and national unity: Communication Minister Gurung

Kathmandu: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasized that the news and programs of Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal should focus on uniting the country, promoting social harmony, and fostering a sense of coexistence.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of Nepal Television at Singha Durbar today, Communication Minister Gurung highlighted that PSB Nepal should prioritize issues that uphold citizens’ right to information and promote national unity.

He acknowledged that after Nepal Television and Radio Nepal transitioned to public service broadcasting, significant reforms are needed in both content and operations.

The Communication Minister also stated that the government is committed to enhancing public service broadcasting in line with international standards, including expanding the reach of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television and improving broadcasting technology.

During the celebration, National Planning Commission member Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha said that PSB should contribute to the country’s economic development and prosperity.

Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Radhika Aryal, underscored the need for timely updates to broadcast content and operations.

Public Service Broadcasting Nepal’s Executive Chairperson Dr. Mahendra Bista stated that PSB Nepal will focus on national needs and public interests, rather than commercial gain.

PSB Nepal’s Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Ram Neupane highlighted that public service broadcasting will be established as a responsible and official service, equipped with technology suitable for the digital age.
