Students from Outside Districts Choosing Jumla for Medical Studies

Jumla, Jan 27: Students from various districts have arrived in Jumla to pursue medical education at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS). A total of 104 students from different regions have enrolled in MBBS, BNS, BPH, B-Pharm, B.Sc Nursing, and other medical programs.

Karnali, once plagued by a severe shortage of doctors and healthcare facilities, has now become a hub for producing medical professionals. KAHS has demonstrated excellence in medical education, achieving a 100% pass rate in various licensing examinations conducted by the Medical Council.

The number of students opting for KAHS over institutions in more accessible areas has increased. Suraj Upadhyay of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality-5, Jumla, who recently enrolled in the BPH program, said that earlier, students had to travel to Kathmandu carrying heavy bags for their studies. Now, even students from more developed districts like Kathmandu are coming to Jumla with packed suitcases to pursue higher education in medical sciences.

Pratiksha Gyawali from Kathmandu, an MBBS student at KAHS, said she chose Jumla because she was impressed by the institution’s academic quality, teaching methods, and overall management.

According to Assistant Professor Om Prakash Kafle, coordinator of the fourth-year program at the School of Public Health, 43 students have enrolled in MBBS, 15 in BPH, 14 in B-Pharm, 17 in B.Sc Nursing, and 15 in BNS, bringing the total number of newly admitted students from outside districts to 104.
