‘Uniformity sought on health checkup of foreign job aspirants’

Kathmandu: The stakeholders have stressed the need for maintaining uniformity in the health examination of those opting for foreign employment.

The members of the Committee on the Industry and Commerce and Labour and Employment under the House of Representatives said it during a discussion with the office bearers of the Nepal Medical Entrepreneurs’ Federation. Quality health examination is ensured when there is uniformity in it, they added.

Association Chair Taranath Aryal demanded the government that it end syndicate in health check-ups of the Nepali workers leaving for jobs abroad. “The fees of health check-ups in different health institutes need to be scientific and the process similar,” he underlined.

A total of 194 institutes are listed for conducting health check-ups of migrants for foreign jobs. Among them, 36 institutes provide such facility for those going to Malaysia and 18 for those going to three Gulf Countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Even the health centres not listed for it were providing this service to which the Federation showed concern.

Similarly, Association’s General Secretary, Krishna Prasad Bajgain, also demanded ending syndicate of the institutes providing health check up of those opting for foreign jobs.

On the occasion, lawmaker Rama Koirala said the health test of the persons going abroad for employment should be internationally recognized. “It’s worrying why the foreign countries were complaining over the standard of health check up conducted in Nepal. It violates their rights,” she argued.
