Media should disseminate impartial news: Vice-Chairperson Adhikari
Kathmandu: Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Shiva Raj Adhikari, has emphasized making the society sustainable, just and inclusive, promoting factual and impartial information by strengthening the information system.
At a pre-launching programme of the Public Service Broadcasting Nepal (PSB Nepal) here today, Adhikari mentioned, ‘Information makes an individual strong and capable of making the right decision.’
Sharing that information is connected with democratic norms and values and the foundation of society’s prosperity, he added the right information would help people get basic rights.
The NPC Vice-Chair expressed the belief that public service broadcasting would play a significant role in making information access reliable and balanced.
Similarly, the Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Radhika Aryal, directed to work with priority as per duties, responsibilities and obligations mentioned in the Public Service Broadcasting Act.
She stressed the need to carry out activities as per the basic principle of Public Service Broadcasting, adding Radio Nepal with a 74-year history and Nepal Television having a 40-year history have their importance.
Likewise, the Chairperson of PSB Nepal, Dr Mahendra Bista said PSB would become a means for nation-building.
‘Radio Nepal and Nepal Television have been significantly contributing to the country’s prosperity as well as promoting the country’s art and culture. The existence of both organisations will be made further stronger,’ he shared.
