VP Yadav emphasizes technical and vocational skills in school curriculum

Kathmandu: Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has highlighted the need to integrate technical and vocational skills into public school curriculum to empower students and make them self-employed and self-reliant.

Inaugurating the ‘Polytechnic School Building’ at Chandragiri Municipality-12 in Kathmandu today, Yadav called for collective efforts to improve the academic standards in the public schools as well as to provide equal opportunities and resources to children from all backgrounds.

Lauding the outstanding SEE results of students belonging to Balambu Secondary School thereby setting a benchmark among public schools across the country, the Vice-President suggested the School uphold this academic achievement in the future as well.

The newly inaugurated building is constructed with the financial assistance of the Dream Sharing Foundation of South Korea. The two-storey building featuring a state-of-the-art laboratory was built at the cost of Rs 25 million.

The polytechnic school will offer skill training in four disciplines – beautician, electrician, motorcycle and mobile phone repair through the bachelor’s level curriculum set by the CTEVT.

Students studying from classes 9 to 12 at Balambu Secondary School could pick any discipline of their choice and pursue technical education alongside their academic studies.

By the time they finish their training up to grade 12, they are eligible to earn a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s level, informed Suman Rawat, Principal at Balambu Secondary School.

Similarly, former Education Minister and parliamentarian Krishna Gopal Shrestha underlined the importance of incorporating technical and vocational training in the public schools’ curriculum to foster self-employment.

Chandragiri Municipality Mayor Ghanashyam Giri expressed his confidence that the polytechnic school would help bridge the gap between theoretical and technical education for the students.

Also speaking at the programme, Sujanraj Khanal, Chief of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports, said that equipping students with both theoretical and technical knowledge and skills would help encourage/promote self-employment in the country.

Likewise, Si Win of the Dream Sharing Foundation reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued support for promoting technical education in Nepal.
