Hetauda to get an international standard cricket ground
January 6, Kathmandu: A new international-standard cricket ground is under construction at the Gauritar Stadium in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-6. The project, estimated to cost NPR 11.74 million, will feature a 6,000-seater stadium, five pitches, a 70-meter radius field, a scoreboard, a VIP lounge, a players’ box, changing rooms, TV and radio broadcasting booths, a media centre, a disabled-friendly area, and parking facilities.
According to Deepak Lama, the Provincial Sports Council member-secretary, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the construction of a four-block stadium, and work on one block is currently underway. The construction contract for the cricket ground was awarded to SNS PL HKC JV for NPR 94.282 million.
Lama informed that the ground levelling work is currently in progress, and most of the budget will be spent on constructing the field. Once the ground level is levelled, pipes will be laid to drain water through an underground drainage system, and gravel and soil will be laid at various levels. Bermuda grass will be planted at the topmost part of the ground.
Paras Khadka, the secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), recently visited the construction site of the cricket ground in Gauritar, Hetauda-6. Khadka, along with spokesperson Chhumbi Lama and officials of the Makwanpur Cricket Association, inspected the ground.
Expressing his happiness over the ongoing infrastructure development for cricket, Secretary Khadka stated that the investment made by the provincial government in infrastructure development for the growth of cricket is positive. He further added that since the infrastructure of the cricket ground is being constructed at a rapid pace, national-level matches can be played soon.
