Local government provides bicycle to underprivileged girls
Tikapur, Jan 3: Some schoolgirls in Tikapur Municipality in the Kailali district have received bicycles from the local government.
The Tikapur Municipality Ward No. 4 distributed bicycles to 18 girls from underprivileged families to help in their studies. The ward office provided bicycles to 18 schoolgirls, considering that girls should be encouraged in their education and feel the presence of the local government, Ward Chairman Lalbir Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary said that women’s promotion was vital in the society. “The girls are brilliant in studies despite immense challenges and poverty. We helped them considering that the government should be supportive of them,” he added.
After getting bicycles from the local government, the girls and their parents are excited and have hoped for good progress in their studies. The beneficiaries now reach their schools in a short period and also help their families at home after saving their time.
The parents are also hopeful of better results for their children. The ward office bought the bicycles at Rs 160,000 and selected 18 children from 60 applicants. In the selection process, underprivileged and brilliant ones were selected.
Member of the municipal executive, Rupmati Dagaura, said this intervention would help increase girls’ access to school. —RSS
