Kathmandu, Jan 2: Minister for Drinking Water Pradip Yadav has said that water supplies from the Melamchi drinking water project will not be disrupted even in the rainy season in the coming year.
Talking to media persons on Thursday, Minister Yadav said the project is working tirelessly to ensure the supply of water in the Kathmandu Valley from Melamchi in all seasons, including in the rainy season. “In the past, water supply from Melamchi was suspended in the rainy season.
Now, we are working to ensure water supply even in the rainy season,” Yadav added. Likewise, he said that the Ministry of Drinking Water is taking concrete steps to end the issue of the water crisis in different districts. People have even migrated from some villages for lack of water supply, he said, adding that the ministry would take serious steps to address the shortage of drinking water supply.
He was of the view that a study is underway to bring water to the Kathmandu Valley from yet another river near the Melamchi River. Minister Yadav also shared that water from the Sisneri River in Makawanpur district will also be supplied to Kathmandu in case the water supply from Melamchi is halted. —RSS
