Executive Chair Dr. Bista stresses advancing PSB aligned with international standards and national needs

Kathmandu: After the transformation of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television into Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal, there has been a strong emphasis on aligning the content of news and programmes with both international best practices and the national needs of the country.

To ensure this, orientation programmes have been launched focusing on the selection of content, production style, and broadcasting methods essential for public service broadcasting.

In this context, an orientation programme was held at Singha Durbar today, concentrating on the selection of programme content, as well as the responsibilities and accountability of programme producers in the realm of public service broadcasting. An earlier orientation programme, held last Friday, addressed topics related to news content, along with responsibilities and accountability.

During both sessions, communications expert Raghu Mainali provided valuable insights on how to create citizen-centric content for public service broadcasting.

At today’s orientation programme, Dr. Mahendra Bista, Executive Chairperson of Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, emphasised the importance of creating a comprehensive PSB that aligns with both international standards and national needs.

He highlighted the necessity of producing content that is accessible to citizens, considering the country’s diverse cultural, social, and geographical landscape, while addressing the problems faced by the people and presenting them to policymakers for solutions.

Bishnu Ram Neupane, Acting Chief Administrative Officer of Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, and Khagendra Khatri Neupane, Deputy Executive Director of Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, urged all staff members to collaborate effectively to make broadcasting more people-centric, ensuring that broadcast content prioritises the objectives of public service broadcasting.

The orientation programme was attended by broadcasters involved in the production and transmission of programmes for Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.
