Malekhu elected as President of TSNA Nepal
December 7, Kathmandu: Junu Malekhu has been elected the president of the Tourism Sisterhood Nepal Association (TSNA). The TSNA is a non-profit organization founded by professional women in the travel, hospitality and aviation industries.
A nine-member working committee was elected unopposed under the leadership of Malekhu from the 6th annual general meeting and election of the association held on Friday evening. Nepal’s head of Cathay Pacific Airlines, Malekhu, has been active in the tourism sector for more than a decade and a half.
Similarly, Rosina Ranjith has been elected as the vice president, Pavna Shrestha as the general secretary, Benju Mukhia as the secretary, and Kevina Pal Adhikari, Pragya Sharma, Yuvika Bhandari, Hema Sripali and Suchita Joshi as members of the new executive committee. More than 50 women are currently affiliated with the TSNA which started with nine members in 2018. It has been working on leadership development by empowering women working in the hospitality sector.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board, Deepak Raj Joshi, said that the Tourism Sisterhood Nepal Association has played an important role in finding new tourism destinations. He also stressed collaboration between NTB and TSNA for promoting tourism in the country. President of Nepal Association of Tours and Travels Agents (NATTA) Kumarmani Thapaliya said that the participation of women in the tourism sector has been increasing and now women should also be in leadership roles.
Vice President of Himalayan Airlines, Bijay Bahadur Shrestha said that the economy of the country will be strong only if domestic tourism is strong and all efforts should be made to promote domestic tourism. Outgoing president of the TSNA, Anupa Budhathoki, said that the Association is working to build sustainable and responsible tourism by enhancing the capacity of women working in the tourism sector.
