Screening of uterine cancer to start from February 13

Kathmandu, Dec. 2: The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the beginning of a one-month-long drive for screening and testing of uterine cancer among 250,000 women.

The Family Health Welfare Division of the Ministry is starting the screening of the cancer of women aged 30 to 49 years from February 13, 2025. Chief of Division Dr. Bibek Kumar Lal said that the screening for uterine cancer would be conducted across the country at once.

Dr. Lal shared that this will be run as a campaign, and 250,000 women will be screened this year. Of the 14,000 cancer-related deaths in 2022 in Nepal, more than 7,700 were due to uterine cancer, the WHO report stated. According to the WHO, 2,169 new cases of uterine cancer were confirmed in the year 2022 and 2,255 cases of breast cancer in the same year.

At present, every day four women succumb to uterine cancer in Nepal. In his plans and priorities, Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel announced the conduct of screening for cancer across the country to control uterine and breast cancer in women.

Likewise, the Ministry is administering vaccines for free to adult girls as a campaign for two weeks beginning February 4, 2025, to combat uterine cancer. —RSS
