New COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 detected in Nepal

January 8, Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed the presence of the new JN.1 sub-variant of COVID-19 within the country. This sub-variant has been reported in several countries in recent weeks.

In a press statement released on Monday, the Ministry urged the public to exercise caution following the detection of the JN.1 sub-variant. Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, informed that out of 16 samples collected from various regions and age groups across the country, seven tested positive for the JN.1 sub-variant of the Omicron variant.

The Ministry has reiterated the importance of avoiding crowds and gatherings, maintaining physical distance, wearing masks, and washing hands regularly with soap and water as precautionary measures against the virus.
