Finance Ministry recommended approval of Rs 5.59 billion for post-disaster bids

Kathmandu: The government has determined that more than five billion rupees is required for the reconstruction and rehabilitation in the areas impacted by recent monsoon flooding, including the Bhotekoshi flood incident.

During the 21st meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, presided over by Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singhadurbar today, a decision was made to recommend to the Ministry of Finance for approval the sum of Rs. 5.59 billion for that purpose.

Funds will be allocated through the Ministry of Finance for these initiatives, which have been approved in accordance with the Financial Procedures and Financial Responsibility Regulations, 2077 BS.

Additionally, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has communicated that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has received instructions to submit recommendations to the Ministry of Finance for necessary budget allocations upon receipt of details regarding projects that remain costing and require prioritization.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shah emphasized that disaster management operations are being executed through coordinated efforts among federal, provincial, and local government entities, and that reconstruction and rehabilitation activities will continue to follow this collaborative approach.

Opposition Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembey and the Chief Ministers of Bagmati, Gandaki, Madhes, and Koshi provinces all expressed their complete support for this initiative.

The meeting acknowledged the loss of life and property resulting from the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood and monsoon disaster, extended sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and expressed profound sympathy to all affected individuals.

Furthermore, the Council conveyed its appreciation to security personnel, public officials, civil servants, private sector representatives, volunteers, media professionals, as well as donor nations and development partners who have provided assistance in the search and rescue operations, relief efforts, and recovery support.
