Incessant rain disrupts rural roads in Humla

Humla, Oct 1: Transportation along both major and rural roads has been completely halted following floods and landslides triggered by recent incessant rains.
Damage has been reported on the Simkot-Hilsa road, the Karnali Corridor, and rural roads across all seven rural municipalities of the district, says Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shankar Khadka, Chief of the District Police Office.
He, however, noted that collecting full details of the damage is proving difficult due to power outages at the district headquarters.
Landslides have occurred at multiple points along the Karnali Corridor between Kawadi and Hilsa, with large boulders completely blocking the road in some areas.
While the Kawadi-Giusi road section has been reopened after clearing debris and rocks, efforts are underway to bring the upper section into operation by Wednesday, provided work continues without interruption.
The rainfall has also damaged rural roads connecting ward centers and settlements across all seven rural municipalities of the district.
According to Chief District Officer Bholanath Guragain, landslides have occurred at more than 70 locations along rural roads. He mentioned that coordination is underway with all rural municipalities to restore traffic on the blocked roads.
Roads leading to Nara Pass in Namkha Rural Municipality-5 (northern Humla) and Nyalu Pass, the route to Limi in Ward No. 6, are also closed due to an accumulation of approximately three and a half feet of snow.
Police have stated that it will be difficult to reopen these roads until the snow is cleared. The simultaneous obstruction of both main and rural roads due to continuous rainfall has disrupted the transportation of food and daily essentials, the movement of patients, and the delivery of essential services in Humla.
