Torrential rain across the country disrupts highways and inundates settlements in several districts

Kathmandu: Torrential rain across the country has disrupted highways, damaged bridges and flooded settlements in several districts.

The Siddhartha Highway has been blocked at two locations in Syangja due to landslides, while the Narayangadh-Muglin road and Prithvi Highway have also been obstructed by landslides.

In Myagdi, the swollen Kaligandaki River has swept away a motorable bridge along the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, cutting off road access to Mustang. Two houses have also been buried by landslides, and a search is underway for two missing people.

In Rupandehi, the flooded Tinau River has swept away six houses in Butwal, although no casualties have been reported.

In Saptari, around 500 houses have been inundated, affecting about 2,000 families in Tilathi Koiladi and Hanumannagar Kankalini rural municipalities.

Similarly, rising waters of the Narayani River have inundated settlements in Nawalparasi East, while residents of affected areas have been moved to safer locations.

The Besisahar-Chame road in Lamjung has also been blocked after a landslide, with around 200 metres of road washed away.

In Karnali, the Karnali Corridor and Karnali Highway have been rendered impassable by landslides, particularly in Aulise of Barahatal Rural Municipality-7.

Authorities and security personnel are working to clear the blocked roads, rescue affected people and restore transportation.
