Finance Minister Wagle leaves for Qatar to attend AIIB annual meeting

Kathmandu: Minister for Finance Dr Swarnim Wagle has left for Doha, Qatar, to attend the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

He departed for Doha on Saturday evening, leading a Nepali delegation to the annual meeting taking place on September 28-29.

The Nepali delegation led by Minister Wagle includes Amrit Lamsal, Joint-Secretary and Head of the International Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance.

During the meeting, Minister Wagle will participate in the Board of Governors session and is expected to discuss ways to mobilize multilateral cooperation and investment in Nepal’s key development priorities, according to his Secretariat.

The key development priorities for the mountainous country include infrastructure development, climate adaptation, renewable energy, post-disaster reconstruction and economic growth.

During his visit, he is also scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with the AIIB President and the Finance Ministers of India, Bangladesh, Qatar and the Maldives. Minister Wagle will return home on September 30.
