Landslide on Kanti Highway removed

Lalitpur: The vehicles that were stopped due to a landslide on Kanti Highway have been sent towards their destinations after clearing the debris. However, the Kanti Highway Project has stated that vehicle operation has been halted at night considering the risk.

After continuous rain, vehicles could not operate all day on Friday on the highway because landslides occurred in Birkhedhara, Pangdur, and Takurche. Supervisor of the project, Deepak Ghimire, informed that all the vehicles, which were stopped after the landslide was cleared since Saturday morning, were sent toward their destinations in the afternoon.

Since meteorologists have pointed out the risk of heavy rain until tomorrow, the District Administration Office has banned vehicle operation at night in view of the risk of landslides. The Lalitpur District Administration, which had banned vehicle movement at night starting Thursday, had also banned it during the afternoon on Friday.

Since there is a risk at night, vehicles leaving from Kathmandu are being stopped from going to Tikabhairav, and vehicles coming from Makawanpur are being stopped at Chaugada, Chief District Officer Narahari Ghimire informed.

According to Supervisor Ghimire, 27 spots on Kanti Highway are considered risk areas. He mentioned that various places from Bhainsekhola to Baguwa are at risk of landslides.

He informed that an excavator has been kept ready to remove the landslide debris on the blocked road section.
