1,436 bodies recovered so far since Bhotekoshi floods

Kathmandu: Total 1,436 dead bodies have been recovered from various places since the Bhotekoshi floods disaster occurred on August 26.

According to Nepal Police, 1,436 bodies were found as of 11:00 am today. The security agency retrieved 223 bodies from Rasuwa, 203 from Nuwakot, 72 from Dhading, 365 from Chitwan, 79 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 232 from Nawalparasi East and 222 from Nawalparasi West.

Police have said that 1,292 bodies were managed underground after collecting DNA samples for identification.

A total of 3,283 DNA samples were collected for identification of the dead bodies. The samples were collected from 1,286 dead ones and 1,997 from related family members.

The security agency has uploaded details about 1,362 unidentified bodies on the Nepal police website.

As many as 7,975 police persons have been mobilized for disaster response- rescue, search, relief distribution and management of bodies in the flood-hit areas. Search for 4,655 missing persons is continuous, the Nepal Police added.
