Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam presented the proposal during today’s House session. Noting that Nepal is grappling with the crisis of oceans and climate change, she highlighted how global warming and climate change are causing ocean temperatures to rise.

The Law Minister expressed the view that Nepal should also be a stakeholder in international ocean governance. “Countries like Nepal can also derive benefits from access to the sea and the conservation and sustainable use of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction,” said the Law Minister.

Various lawmakers participated in the discussion. The next meeting of the House of Representatives will be held at 13:00 hrs on September 21.
