Meeting between Energy Minister Shrestha and UNOPS Regional Director

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has held a meeting with Regional Director for Asia Pacific for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Sara Netzer.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday evening. UNOPS Regional Director met Minister Shrestha following her on-site inspection of the area affected by the Bhotekoshi flash flood.

In the meeting, Minister Shrestha said that the assessment of the damage caused by the catastrophic floods is going on with coordination among ministries, while search, rescue and relief distribution continued. He also shared the government realization of forwarding integrated development plan that considers climate change.

The ministry is planning to make water resources and hydropower projects climate-friendly, Minister Shrestha added. UNOPS Regional Director Netzer said that they would support Nepal for long-term integrated development.

“We want to provide our expertise and experience to Nepal’s integrated development plan. More detailed discussions with the relevant agencies are necessary for this,” she added.
