Gen Z Martyrs Day: Public holiday today

Kathmandu: The first Gen Z Martyrs Day is being observed in Nepal today.

Gen Z movement, which occurred a year back on September 8-9, had caused the dissolution of the then government, thereby installing a new one led by former chief justice Sushila Karki. It was the interim government that successfully conducted the March 5 election.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which secured nearly two-thirds of the votes in the election, formed a government under the leadership of a young leader, Balendra Shah.

The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has announced a public holiday on Gen Z Day today in memory of those losing lives in the historic movement.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on September 3 decided to give a public holiday today. RSS
