Bhotekoshi flood: More than 13,000 rescued

Kathmandu: Thirteen thousand three hundred and ninety-six people have been rescued so far during the search and rescue operations in the affected areas since the flood hit the Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa on August 26.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said that among those rescued, 3,533 people are sheltered in 39 holding centres across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. After the flood, so far the bodies of 1,355 people have been found, while 4,996 people are still missing.

NDRRMA stated that 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. According to Shanti Mahat, the NDRRMA spokesperson, a total of 6,672 injured and affected people have received medical treatment, and out of 323 people being treated in various hospitals, 228 have been discharged.

Similarly, she informed that 3,379 people have received health treatment services from the Nepali Army and 2,970 people from the Armed Police Force Nepal.

The Authority has stated that various government bodies are involved with relief and management work to meet the basic needs of displaced and affected citizens while keeping them in safe places.

Security forces, local authorities, and various government and non-government agencies have been continuously active in search, rescue, treatment, and relief management after the flood in the Bhotekoshi River caused massive human and material losses all at once.

NDRRMA said that the search and rescue has been intensified for the missing persons.
