Chief Minister Bhatta expresses concern over partial blockage of Chaulani River

Sudurpashim: Chief Minister of Sudur Paschim Province, Khagraj Bhatta, has directed the authorities concerned to remain on high alert in view of the potential risk posed by the partial blockage of the Chaulani River at Bhattar of Api Himal Rural Municipality- 1 in Darchula.

The Chief Minister held discussions with Api Himal rural-municipality’s chair Bhagat Singh Thekare Bohara, Darchula’s chief district officer Bartaraj Paudel and secretary Dharmaraj Joshi and other officials concerned about the situation, directing them to remain on high alert to prevent potential risks.

The people residing near the riverbanks have been urged to take preventive measures against any danger arising from the river blockage due to a mudslide. The security bodies have been asked to remain stand-by for emergency actions if needed.

Meanwhile, issuing a notice today, the District Administration Office, Darchula also urged the people near the riverbanks to be vigilant of the situation and take safety measures. As the DAO said, the landslide is continuous, posing a risk for further blockage of the river on a wider scale.

The public have been urged to dial up at 1115 (for flood information), 1234 (seek help during disaster), 100 (Nepal Police) and 1144 (Armed Police Force) when necessary.

Meantime, the Armed Police Force from the Nepal Chameliya Hydropower Security Base, Balanch has been mobilised to make the locals aware of the potential risk from the river blockage, it is said.

According to APF Deputy Inspector General Digbijay Subedi, the river’s flow is so far at its normal scale. However, APF personnel have been mobilised to disseminate necessary information in view of the potential risk.
