Nepalis stranded in Kerung will be brought to home via alternative route: Foreign Minister Khanal

Nuwakot: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has said the Nepali people stranded in Kerung, China due to the Bhotekoshi flash flood would be brought to Nepal via alternative route.

Foreign Minister Khanal said preliminary information was received that 1,000 Nepalis were said to be stranded in Kerung since the disaster. So, they would be brought to Nepal via alternative way, he added. The Minister said it during an inspection visit to the disaster-hit area at Dhunge of Bidur Municipality-1 today.

He further informed RSS that government had requested the Chinese side to resume Tatopani check point (Sindhupalchowk) and Korala check point (Mustang) to ease cross-border movement and transport between the two countries.

The government had requested Chinese and Indian technical experts after it realized the need of foreign assistance for rescuing those trapped inside the hydropower tunnels, he made it clear.

“In case of further need, the assistance can be received from other countries as well. International community has made commitment to assistance. So, the assistance will be accepted based on need,” he explained.
